Course Overview

The course begins with a comprehensive introduction of Fundamental Coaching Competencies through the lens of Functional Medicine Coaching & Health Lifestyle Education. You will learn the 6 Branches of our FMCA Health Coaching Certification Program: The Principles of Functional Medicine, The Principles of Functional Nutrition, Positive Psychology, Mind-Body Medicine, the Art & Science of Coaching, and the FMCA Career Navigator™. Each module is designed to build on the principles and foundations of the previous module, deepening your knowledge, practice, and confidence as you move through the 12-month program. Coaching in Action videos show practical applications of each lesson.

Course Pace

There are up to 14 hours of pre-recorded content released each month for each student to move through and study at their pace. There are also Ask the Expert calls and occasional specialty webinars; these are recorded. Explore our curriculum topics and objectives for the program in our Info Packet.

The estimated time commitment for the program is 8-12 hours per week. The amount of time necessary to watch webinars, listen to interviews, complete required readings, participate in discussion boards, etc., will vary depending on your learning style. Students have required Live Training Sessions (2 hours each) online via Zoom 3 times per month.

Course Objectives

  • Model fundamental coaching competencies, including legal, professional, and ethical standards set forth by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
  • Choose appropriate positive psychology principles and coaching tools to engage clients and inspire them to initiate and sustain lifestyle changes.
  • Explain the concepts and tools of Functional Medicine to educate and guide clients.
  • Distinguish among the concepts and tools associated with Functional Nutrition and the other modifiable lifestyle factors.
  • Compare and contrast mind-body techniques and other self-regulation strategies to assist clients in implementing their personalized plan.
  • Apply appropriate protocols for working with medical care teams.
  • Formulate strategies for establishing a career as a health coach.
